Sack Time

Historical testimony: Nose art inspired by the Consolidated Liberator B-24M-2-FO built by Ford at Willow Run, Michigan, with the Serial no 44-50797 and belonging to the 308th Bombardment group, 14th US Air Force based in China Burma India. The pin-up artwork (inspired by Alberto Vargas illustration) was on a black background with dark blue shadow around yellow letters. However, on this piece of fuselage, the stencilled markings indicates a B-26 Martin Marauder having taken part in night and day bombing missions and two small Nippon flags symbolising enemy fighters destroyed by machine gunners. The original nose art is displayed in the America Airpower Heritage Museum. Midland, Texas.

Artwork description: Enamel and oil paint on polished aluminium plates riveted to cardboard panel and curved on a foam board structure. Small porthole window made of Perspex.
