Rangy Lil

Historical testimony: This U.S.A.F Consolidated Liberator B-24M-5-CO was built by Ford at Willow Run, Michigan, with the Serial no 44-41867. This long-range heavy bomber served in the 5th Air Force within the 380th Bombardment group, 529th Squadron. It was involved in radar counter measures missions against the Japanese and operated in the Philippines, Antipoela, Luzon and Okinawa. When it flew out of Fenton in Northern Australia, where it was based, it would have likely flown with a hybrid US/RAAF crew. At one time it had specialist receiving equipment and perhaps jamming transmitters to foil Japanese radars. After the war, "Rangy Lil" was stationed at Kingman, Arizona and was scrapped in 1947. Its pin-up artwork (inspired by Alberto Vargas illustration) was originally on a green circle.

Artwork description: Enamel and oil paint on polished aluminium plates riveted to cardboard panel and curved on a foam board structure. Approximate size 120 x 80 cm.
