Raid over Germany

Historical testimony: This Royal Air Force Avro Lancaster, commonly known as the Lancaster Bomber, is a British Second World War heavy bomber. It was designed and manufactured by Avro as a contemporary of the Handley Page Halifax, both bombers having been developed to the same specification. Along with the Short Stirling, all three aircraft, being four-engine heavy bombers, were adopted by the RAF during the same era. While the Lancaster had been designed to conduct night-time operations, daylight raids were also performed. Occasionally, lone Lancasters would be dispatched to perform decoy raids on key manufacturing sites, such as munitions factories, with the intention of simply being spotted to cause workers to go to air raid shelters, thus disrupting production.
