Still Going Strong

Historical testimony: Nose Art inspired by "Johnnie Walker" and painted by Clarence Simonsen on a wing panel of the Canadian-built Mark 1 Avro Lancaster W-4964, WS-J belonging to the No. 9 Squadron, of the Royal Air Force. This artwork associates the famous whiskey icon with bottle silhouettes that some crews used to symbolise their bombing missions, instead of the more common bombs design. Among the original aircraft crew, two members were Australians: the Navigator and the Wireless Operator. The kangaroo was painted as a RAF gesture acknowledging the two crew members country of origin.

Artwork description: Enamel and oil painted aluminium plates riveted to a cardboard panel. Approximate size 76 x 33cm.

Price: AUD$ 300.00
